Dr. Maria Hester is a board certified internist with an unquenchable passion for patient empowerment. She wrote her first book when she was still in medical school. Despite the grueling medical school routine, she was determined to teach people how to live healthier lives and minimize suffering. Her second book, Your Family Medical Record: An Interactive Guide to Getting the Best Care was published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. in 2000, long before partnering in one’s health care was a popular concept. Realizing far more needs to be done to bridge the gaps between doctors and patients, she developed an online health portal with links to numerous health education web sites. She believed that since doctors have medical school to teach them how to be good doctors, patients deserve a patient school to empower them to be good patients. Thus, she developed PatientSchool.net. She recently developed the Patient Whiz, a credit card size USB flash drive that fits in any standard wallet. The Patient Whiz is chock-full of tips on how to partner with one’s physician to help expedite the correct diagnosis quickly, while decreasing the need for costly, potentially expensive tests. This device also provides national guidelines on age- and sex-appropriate screening tests that have been proven to save lives. However, the greatest strength of the Patient Whiz is its medical record keeping capacity. It provides numerous fill-in charts to allow users to keep up with everything from medication allergies to family medical history. Dr. Hester has seen first hand how the lack of important medical information results in suboptimal care, delayed diagnoses, and exhorbitant medical bills. Her goal is to empower all Americans with basic “patient skills” that will20enable them to obtain the best health care available at a fraction of the cost. Robert Charles Guccione, Jr. (born 1956) - the eldest son of Bob Guccione (founder of Penthouse magazine) - is best known for founding the music magazine Spin.
In 1978, after two attempts at going into the publishing business on his own, Guccione went to work for General Media International - his father's publishing empire. By the early '80s, at which time he was running the marketing and circulation department, he left the company (and purported position as heir apparent) to once again attempt to establish his own brand.
He launched Spin in 1985 with a loan from Guccione Sr., who abruptly shut down the magazine two years later after General Media experienced a financial dip. These events resulted in a still-ongoing estrangement between the two. Guccione Jr. found new investors and relaunched Spin in late 1987. He managed to gather most of the magazine's old staff, and missed only one month of publication.

Simcha Weinstein (1975 - ) is an English author and a rabbi. In 2006, his first book Up Up and Oy Vey : How Jewish History, Culture and Values Shaped the Comic Book Superhero was published. In 2008, his second book Shtick Shift: Jewish Humor in the 21st Century was published. Simon Weinstein [Hebrew name "Simcha"] was born in Manchester, England , son of Eddie and Valerie Weinstein. He attended Manchester Metropolitan University, where he earned a B.A. in film history. After graduation, he joined the British film commission and worked as a location scout for films like The Full Monty. In England , Weinstein joined two Orthodox organizations, Aish Hatorah and Manchester Lubavitch, before moving to Jerusalem to study at Mayanot Yeshiva. He married Ariella, an American, and the Weinsteins moved to Crown Heights, Brooklyn. With their three children, Mendel, Eli, and Orah Binah, they currently reside in Brooklyn Heights , Brooklyn . Weinstein ministers to Jewish students at Pratt Institute (where he serves as Chair of its Religious Affairs Committee), Brooklyn Law School and Long Island University. In 2003 he founded the semiannual Brooklyn Heights Jewish Film Festival. He is also the founder of the Downtown Brooklyn Jewish Student Foundation and is the Chabad emissary to the Downtown Brooklyn student community and the Clinton Hill community. Weinstein's first book, Up Up and Oy Vey, published in 2006, analyzes the Jewish role in the creation of such popular comic book superheroes as Superman, Batman, Hulk, Captain America, and Spider-Man, as well as super-teams like the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and the Justice League of America. The book also discusses Jewish superheroes, like Shadowcat, Sabra and The Thing and Jewish graphic artists including Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, Will Eisner, Bob Kane, Bill Finger, Jerry Robinson, Chris Claremont, Julius Schwartz and Stan Lee. Up Up and Oy Vey won the prestigious Ben Franklin literary award in 2007 for Religious book of the year. The first sentence of the book reveals Weinstein's interest in the link between popular superheroes and Jewish tradition: "Before Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man, there were the superpatriarchs and supermatriarchs of the Bible and heroic figures named Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David and Samson – not to mention the miracle-working prophet Elijah and those Jewish wonderwomen Ruth and Esther just to name a few. They all wielded courage and supernatural powers to protect and serve their people." Weinstein's second book Shtick Shift: Jewish Humor in the 21st Century, published in 2008, presents an overview of the approach modern Jewish comedians are taking to their work - brutal, matter-of-fact, and unashamedly Jewish. To contrast the older approach with the newer approach, Weinstein gives examples of the comedy of previous generations of comedians such as Gertrude Berg, Woody Allen, Sid Caesar, and Mel Brooks. He then presents in-depth analysis of the modern crop of Jewish comedic performers, including Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, Sacha Baron Cohen and Sarah Silverman.
