CATHERINE
O’NEILL, the only uniformed American service person ever to get promoted from
Sergeant to General in one day, is festering to talk about the 70th
anniversary of the Normandy invasion. (That “sergeant-to-general” bit is
technically true, but there’s an angle!) Barry had already booked Robert
Rodriguez, the blind historian, for the anniversary, tomorrow night, but our
landing barges were bobbing up and down in the stormy English Channel 70 years
ago TONIGHT, awaiting orders to proceed which never came. So, this
anniversary is a double-header!
