One of the greatest American quotes of all time is, "Mr. Gorbachev! Tear down this wall!" Apparently Fidel Castro, at least according to some reports, is "tearing down his own wall" and instead of attacking and murdering Cubans trying to flee the island in flimsy craft, allowing them to leave if they choose. The only other Communist leader to do that was Marshal Tito of the old Yugoslavia, and it was a huge success. Popular hatred of Communism went down and the mere knowledge that leaving was possible, induced many to stay and build a better Yugoslavia.
