"You're out of your mind, Mr. Farber," I can
imagine the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs telling me. Nobody gets promoted from Sergeant to Major
General overnight!" And he'd almost
be right. Only one person ever made
it. KATE O'NEILL, Harvard-graduate and
U. S. Army volunteer, rose to the rank of sergeant. After leaving the service, Kate was appointed
to DACOWITZ, the organization that travels cross-country and around the world
safe-guarding the rights and well-being of women in the military. Since no woman below the rank of officer had
ever been named before, they had to give her a "promotion" so she
could wine, dine, investigate and be part of the group. So Kate overnight was given the
"protocol" rank of major-general. There will be no saluting or pulling-of-rank of any kind this
evening. All eyes, ears, thoughts and
memories are fixed on D-Day exactly sixty-nine years ago today, as Kate visits
with Sara and Barry this evening.
